3 August 2025 | Rich Fool | Luke 12:13-21

This week my heart has been absolutely broken by the scenes from Gaza. It is even more distressing that aid that is being offered is being blocked. On top of these distressing scenes I have heard of people doubling down and defending the actions of Israel.

In the Old Testament God sets down the rules for how Israel are to act among themselves and to those around them. No matter what anyone’s view is on who owns what land, these verses remind us that God’s standards are different from human ones: “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.” (Lev 19:34)

Let us continue to pray for God’s will to be done in Israel and Palestine.

This Sunday we read the Parable of the Rich Fool & we will be asking ourselves if we purchase and collect too much stuff when people have nothing.

The challenge for us to understand today is of radical sacramentality. Can we make space to find God in our everyday lives?

Luke 12:13-21

Prayers & Psalms

Each Sunday, prior to the sermon we have created a space for more voices from our community; One of our children read a Psalm from ‘Psalms for Young Children’ by Marie-Hélène Delval.

Followed by a prayer, shared by a member of our congregation, focused around what's happening in the world, our country and our community. We have included some of these on our Prayers Page for you to revisit and reflect on the words that they shared.
