Weekly notices - 29 September 2024
Welcome
It’s great to have you join us this morning. A special welcome to you if you are new here. We hope you’ll stay around after the service and say hi.
Kia tau te rangimarie,
Carolyn.
Today’s Service
This morning we will be looking at what the bible has to say about how not to treat others from Mark, then how to treat others from the book of James. It is interesting to consider in light of the Royal Commission into abuse in Care.
“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.” Ecclesiastes 4:10
Mark 9:38-50
James 5:16, 19-20
Each week we will have one of our children read a Psalm from ‘Psalms for Young Children’ by Marie-Hélène Delval,.
Followed by a member from our congregation leading prayers. If you would like to revisit and reflect on today’s prayer, you can find it over at our Prayers Page
Survivors of historical abuse in the Anglican Church are encouraged to email: contact@anglicanredress.nz
Anyone wishing to make a current complaint can contact the Ministry Standards Commission registrar by email on: registrar@ministrystandards.org

Sister Eveleen Retreat House may need you!!
Vacancy for a Live-In Host Interested in serving God through the gift of hospitality?
Sister Eveleen Retreat House (SERH) is perched on the hill overlooking Sumner Beach. It is a place steeped in prayer and offering opportunities in contemplative Christian spiritual practice. The house accepts guests all year around, runs regular retreats, and hosts a wide range of Christian groups. We have a vacancy for a Live-in Retreat House Host (RHH), paid 10 hours a week, accommodation provided.
The RHH works with the Director to provide a hospitable welcome to guests and a presence at the house when the Director has left for the day. We’re looking for someone who has a strong, firmly rooted, Christian faith, someone who has a heart for the contemplative expression of faith as a way for God to be closely present. Are you comfortable welcoming strangers, discerning when to chat and when to be silent, mature and responsible?
This might be more than just a role; it could be a calling for someone who feels drawn to a ministry of hospitality and contemplative service.
You might be on sabbatical, writing/researching/working from home, or in a transitional stage of your life. (with the possibility of a 6 -12 months role)
Still Interested?
If you think Retreat House Host sounds like you, please ask for a ministry description, or arrange a visit to Sister Eveleen Retreat House, by contacting the Director, Antje Duda antje_duda@sistereretreat.com, phone 022 563 6879.
