Parish Mission Impact Review to take place on 29 and 30 AUGUST 2026
The Diocese has reinstated five yearly parish reviews and the Parish of Shirley will be reviewed on the weekend of 29 and 30 August. A Mission Impact Review Team consisting of the team leader, Grant Adams (St Christophers, Avonhead), Susan Rendall (Transitional Cathedral) and Ven Nick Mountfort (Malvern and Archdeacon for Education) will lead the review and interview a selected group of leaders. All members of the congregation will also be invited to complete a questionnaire about the current mission and ministry of the parish.
The purpose of the Mission Impact Review is to ‘assess, affirm and challenge’ parishes in their ministry and mission and is a snapshot of parish life. The Team will ‘hold up a mirror’ to the congregation to enable a process of stock taking and spiritual assessment. This is intended to be a sympathetic and encouraging process designed to strengthen the parish and move the parish toward a more intentional missional footing.
From Sunday 9 August you will have the opportunity to complete the questionnaire. The link will be emailed and you will have two weeks to complete it. If you don’t have internet access, please complete a paper copy of the questionnaire. Carolyn R will make this available. Please engage with this process prayerfully and thoughtfully.
Interviews will take place on Saturday 29 August and the reviewers will attend worship at All Saints on Sunday 30 August. This will be followed by morning tea and the reviewers will then make a presentation to the parish. A report will then be written and sent to the Parish Vestry with observations and recommendations.
You are also invited to pray for the whole review process, the reviewers, Carolyn R and the other leaders. Please direct any questions you have to me by email.

Eco Church update: new team members would be awesome!
What is Eco Church?
It isn’t a denomination, but is a project that churches can join, to get support and community as we care for God’s creation and love our neighbours in a resource-limited world.
We became an Eco Church in 2023 - what’s been happening since then?
We’ve supported non-car transport (with a second bike rack, and bus route tips on our website), worked through a ‘Stewards of Eden’ Bible study, collected eco-tips for the newsletter, introduced soft plastics and other non-yellow-bin recycling for those who find it hard to make it to one of the official collection points (which we take to those collection points for you), set up pest traps in the community garden, and more.
We started with loads of ideas, implemented some of them, and slowly lost momentum as we met with various obstacles. And the person in charge (Lee) is someone who doesn’t like being in charge of things, or telling people what to do.
So what’s next? Is this an example of what Carolyn mentioned recently, where some ministries have a natural end-point?
Hopefully not. We still have a team of about four people, and plenty of ideas. We’d love some new folks with the energy and capacity that we’re running low on.
What’s on the wish list?
Picture-based signage in the kitchen, for soft plastics.
Someone to share the drop-offs task – our team has cyclists and infrequent drivers, so we’re currently using extra petrol to drop off soft plastics.
Someone would could apply for grants, for projects like solar and planting
People to organise or promote things like: o bike/bus to church day, clothing swap hosted at All Saints, members’ garden network e.g. one household grows loads of carrots to share, someone else loads of chillies, etc, preserving excess (from network or All Saints garden) to share
