Today’s Service
With today’s reading from Mark, we explore the challenge of following Jesus. How he invites us out of our cultural norms and into his Kingdom, and the choice offered to us, to chose to follow Him even in the face of opposition.
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. ... Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God." C.S. Confirmation Service - Sun 23 June
Bishop Peter Carrell will be with us to perform the Confirmations during our Sunday Service 23 June.
If you are a follower of Jesus and have not been baptised, what are you waiting for!? If you’ve been baptised, you can choose to be confirmed in your decision to follow Jesus and be prayed for to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Speak to Carolyn R if you would like to find out more.
Matariki
Join us for a Combined Matariki Service on Sunday 30 June 10.30am.
A service in the style of our Christmas Lessons and Carols. With creative items and poems based on the themes of God’s creation, stars, seasons and reflection. Service will be followed by a soup lunch!
No kids programme.
Prayer Community
In this ‘Year of Prayer’ for the regeneration of our Diocese we invite you to join the Diocesan Prayer Community.
This is a commitment to pray daily for personal renewal and the regeneration of our Diocese. The scriptures declare that “Unless the Lord builds the house those who build it labour in vain.” Psalm 127:1.
This is a call for us to ask that God would indeed build the church – our role is to pray and serve God faithfully.
